I too walked in to my LFS recently to be greeted by happy little figure 8 babies. I also couldnt resist.

I did show some restraint by only grabbing one.

He is soooo small. About the size of a kidney bean.

here comes the sad part ---

when i got him home, i noticed this transparent spot on his chin (see arrow)

it looks grey in the picture, but it really has more of a transparent quality. I dont know how i missed it at the store!

anyways, he looks fat and healthy otherwise. has a great personality and is constantly crusing the tank

should i wait to see if it goes away, or should i treat with something ??? (id really like to avoid any meds if possible) ----

I just got 5 baby F8s just like yours. They all have the same chin strap thing going on. I don't think it's anything to be worried about at all.

They sure are cute though.

Nope. So much easier to just pay some guy with a net to look for little guys. With a couple of notable exceptions (like Rocker's little babies) all puffs are wild-caught, even the ones that will breed in captivity.

thats really too bad --- i had heard they were all wild caught but after seeing rockers story, thought that captive breed was a possibility

do you think its generally better to get them youngner, so they at least grow up in captivity ???

as far as i read, the younger the better so that they havent lived in the wild for so long so they dont have too many bad habits.

altho alot of the older puffers in stores seem to be bring backs or havent been sold since being brought in as babys
