Potential Sabahensis Tank Setup, Ideas???

I'm picking up the Sabahensis either tomorrow or Sunday. Only problem is Decor. I was going to get a couple more fake mangrove roots as I have about £50 of store credit at my LFS after offloading my 2 Gibbiceps and Redhook Characin. So tonight i've gone down to pick up a couple and surprise surprise they havent got any, they've got every other ornament under the sun apart from the ones I want... typical.

So anyways I need some alternatives now as at the moment the tank is empty and i'm not putting him in a bare tank.

I was thinking of getting a couple of pieces of Ocean Rock, I have another large boulder that is in my 70g that i'm tearing down and then thinking a load of fake plants along with some pebbles that i've got spare that I have used in my other tanks.

What do you think of this setup. will Ocean rock will be alright in a brackish tank or should I go with something else like lava rock etc and they had something called grotto rock but i'd never heard of that.

Ideas please, I need to but this stuff tomorrow morning.

I think ocean rock would be better than lava rock, especially in case you are going to high brackish someday. In addition ocean rock will provide some buffering.

Anything else can be similar to a tank for fluviatilis or nigroviridis. Maybe build a stable cave out of your rocks, some may prefer sleeping or hiding in such a place.

Have fun buying and decorating and good luck with the puffer!

Cheers Corvus, i'm gonna pick up a few choice pieces in the morning along with some fake plants, it won't be the end of the tank layout but at least it will be a start.

Brackish tanks inevitably get a lot of algae, so work with it rather than against it. Use the algae to your advantage and make it look great that way.

Algae I can live with mate. Good job I dragged myself to work today to pick up the refractometer, I miscalculated on the salt, the SG of the tank was 1.007, i've got it down to 1.004 though for tomorrow.

All I am going to add tomorrow is the fake plants. I'll add the Ocean Rock slowly when I do some water changes.
