The Puffer Forum

I was at the LFS, and they had a "Snowflake Puffer." Obviously, this isn't an accepted common name. No one knew what the scientific name was, either. It was being housed as a freshwater, and was already at a chunky 2 or 3". (However, they were also housing F8's as FW.) It had whitish eyes, and the coloring was very lightly banded tan and light brown. It had pale spots on it. (Not Ich.) Hence the name they gave it.

Any clues as to what this was? It looked very interesting. I looked at the Puffer List, but didn't see anything that looked like it. I'll check again, though.

Yes, I did. No match as far as I could tell.

only thing that pops in my head is takifugu oblongus...a lot of lfs keeps them in fw and they mistaken call them "milk spotted puffer."

They are tan with dark brown bands and white spots all over.

sounds like a dog puffer.....salt water puffer...but then again i dont know?

I think it is that Takifugu Oblongus. The one at the LFS was paler, but that's to be expected with stress and all, I suppose. Thanks a lot, everyone. I'm off to research the cute lil critter.
