My new fahaka's pectoral fins appear to be a light pinkish, kind of milky color. These photos are as good as I could get of it. As you can see, it has obviously had its fins nipped recently, and shows several battle scars on its body closer to its tail, the telltale circular scars. He's in the hospital tank with Melafix and Pimafix. Am I on the right track for treatment? I haven't had this issue with any others before.

The little guy looks so battered and stressed, the poor thing. I think the treatment your on right now is good as a preventive while he heals up. It was hard to see in the pictures, but from what I could tell it doesn't look like fungus.

Thanks. I know its a little hard to see. I wasn't sure if it was a fungus per se or something else but his fin on the right (as you face him) is a little more of a pinkish milky color than the one on the left, which is a little more clear. I think the white spots on the fins are just damaged rays though from being in fights, as they all seem to be along the rays. I figured Pimafix and Melafix might help if there's something wrong, and won't hurt if there's not.

Another good sign. He doesn't have a bulging tummy but there are some scattered snail shell parts around. So he's started to eat a little something.

It just looks like irritated and healing flesh to me, I think clean water and the Melafix/Pimafix will work wonders.

I'm glad he's eating! I don't think the white spots on the fins are suspicious either, they look like natural markings or scars.

He's a cutie! His fins will grow back right? That's what I read, as long as they are continually nipped on, and I'm sure you won't let that happen boxermom!

My archer has those spotty things, I thought it was ich and immediately took him out into the quarantine tank, but after closer inspection I don't believe it is, will monitor it for 7 days though...but yes i think they are just battle scars like your little one has, as part of his back fin is missing as well (didn't notice that in the LFS!)

Yes, they will usually grow back quite nicely and unless he learns how to bend in weird ways and bite himself, there'll be no further risk to him.

My fahaka has a couple of white dots on its fins. I wonder if you know what that is. It is not fungus for sure because it isn't spreading and it does no damage to the fine whatsoever (the fins are clear). I've added salt and fungus treatment just to be sure, but the white dots are still there on the fins.

What are those white dots and should I leave it there or try to use Q-tip to rub them off?

I would definately NOT try rubbing them off with a Qtip.
