I just got my Pink Spotted Puffer. A very mild mannered puffer according to the LFS. 4 Days and he hasn't touched a crab yet! I've seen lots on puffers and crabs, but are they compatible with snails or urchins?

He may just be getting acclimated to his surroundings & become more predatory, when he's comfortable.

Yeah, that's exactly what happened, 2 days later, shells. Is there any sort of fish that would eat the brown algae since crabs aren't gonna work.

I was also wondering if someone could help me with a lighting question. I have a Current Orbit Power Compact light. What timing should I use on the Daylight bulb and the Actinic bulb.

DO you mean how many hours in the day shoud the lights be on?

Do you have mushrooms, polops, corals?

USiually in a tank like that you are the clean up crew!

The actinic bulb is used to enhance the corals appearance and give the tank a blue-ish look. If the lights can be run seperately, then i would have them both on during the day, and then just the actinics on for the last like hour of the light cycle as a 'night light' which helps the fish adjust to the sudden darkness, same in the morning aswell.

so an example would be:

8.00am-9.00am just actinics
9.00am-8.00pm both
8.00pm-9.00pm just actinics
9.00pm-8.00am neither

I thought my crabs were dead, then I looked at my tank at night, and there they were, scavenging for food. Today I added 3 more crabs and a couple of snails and he doesn't bother them at all. The only thing he bothered was some aptasia(I think thats what it is) attached to the shells of one of my snails, one bite and he spit it out.
And also today I added his tankmate, a juvenile Blue Head Wrasse. Its the same fish they had at the LFS in the same tank, so they should get along!
