hey, so for the last few days my abei has been digging quite a deep trench behind his cave. I was old by my LFS that he may actually be a she and is digging a spot to lay her eggs. does anyone know if this is true. Also he hasn't eaten for almost 3 days, which isn't like him at all, any comments would be great

Mine does this all the time. He permantly has a glass bottom to the cave. I say 'he' as he has always done this but never witnessed any eggs.

yeah, i was looking to see if any eggs were present, none so far. Do you happen to know if there is any possible way to sex abeis?

None that I know of.
I only know how to sex the Carinotetraodons

maybe a little buket and spade is needed

I have on occasion seen my Mbu burrow into the gravel but its not a common occurance

mine do also dig in the sand of their caves. but abei usually do not spawn in caves or in digged holes but on stones or wood.

I have come to learn that the term 'usually' does not apply to puffers lol.

have you ever had puffers spawn in very different places like for example cavebreeders spawning in plants or on stone/wood?

The suvattii are supposed to dig pits in their cave to lay. They would dig the pits but lay no eggs. Its only when I put a piece of slate in the tank that the female laid the eggs.
