It's not a Palembangensis.

abei?

I'm not too sure, there's something about the body colour and the head shape and the spots that doesnt look Abei, but the target spot and the red tinge to the end of the tail fin looks Abei.

My puffer taxonomy isn't up to par with most of you folks, but I would say neither. Unfortunately I don't have any ideas what it could be. It sure is beautiful though. I love the patterning and colors.

Juvenile target puffers are difficult to tell apart said Roberts who (in contrast to me) can be called an expert. The original abei all looked like Rocker's abei. They all had orange spots. If the ocellated spot becomes similar to the other spots I'd call him abei, anyway, because the other target puffers (except turgidus who never has an ocellus) have the ocellus all their live. If it had (or would get while growing up) a longer snout I'd call it leiurus. If the snout stays short I'd say cochinchinensis (EDIT: although they are most often said to be green).

If mine's an abei which I'm 99.9% sure on, then taly's one must be abei too

I think a picture of the side profile will help.

I too think that it looks like an abei, except that the shape of the head is weird. Perhaps it is just the angle at which the photograph was taken.

Looking at the top pic next to the shell I can see how he might look a little like a palembangensis but I still say abei
