The Puffer Forum

I'm new to the forum here. I have to believe a Green Spotted Puffer. I keep him in brackish water about 80 degrees. I feed him small snails and freeze dried shrimp. Ive had him for about 8 months now and as of last month hes developed this white stuff on him. Some days it looks like its getting better, others not. I'm thinking its fungus, but I want to be sure before I try to treat it.

Also about the same time he started getting sick, the tank started to grow algae all over. Appetite seems fine and hes still very active.

If anyone can tell me what I should do first to start treating him. I have all ready added a bit more salt into the tank. I used instant ocean originally to set his tank up.

Not sure what it is, but it wont hurt to add some melafix and pimafix until someone else chimes in.
What are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, salinity..)? They may help in diagnosis.

Looks really bad. Please read the 1st post in this forum & answer all the questions you can.

1/4 tank water changes about every 2 weeks. Nitrate 40, nitrite 0, aklanity 240, PH 7.8 hydrometer a little under 1.01.

I got some melifix and primifix, but should I use it? Should I clean and change the tank first? Can I use both at the same time if Im not sure what he has?

Tank size, tank mates, ammonia? Nitrates should be <20. Start doing 50% weekly WC. Add Melafix, Pimafix & Maracyn, all at once, after a 50% WC.

10 gallon no tank mates. Isnt nitrite same as the amonia level?

Nope, 2 different tests. How large is the puffer? How long has the tank been set up? How was it cycled? Weren't these all Qs in that post I asked you to answer? It makes it a lot easier for us to help you with these answers.

Looks like what my old GSP had over his tail/caudal peduncle, and no meds seemed to have an effect.
