will this be adequate for a ceylon? (130 L / 35gallon)

im trying to compromise with my other half about what size tank i am allowed to have.
ive found one he is willing to compromise with... its an aquastyle 620t. It holds 130 liters / 35 us gallons. would this be big enough for a ceylon? i know it says 40 us gallons, but would this be ok?

thats the one that will fit into the last spot left for a tank.. otherwise im going 78 gallons for a corner tank... but that might take some pushing and shoving.... plus more expensive to setup.

40g is the MINIMUM. I'd go w/a GSP for that tank.

yeh thats what i thought.
well... i may have found another compromise...
a windsor 66 aquarium, its 190 litre / 47 us gallons. so that would be a good size for one ceylon.
orrrrr i could just go and buy the 350 litre / 78 gallon one, then i can have 2
arghhh

well that was the original plan... but it just feels so complicated cos the ceylon is in freshwater at the lfs and the green spotted is in brackish. just tryin to get my head around how best to go about it. argh

On another site I saw 30gal as the minimum for ceylon puffs....10gal is a pretty big difference in my opinion. I understand bigger is always better, but are these guys so active that 1 puff needs the bigger tank?

Everyone used to suggest 30 gallons minimum for GSP's and Ceylons, but ceylons get a bit bigger so the extra room really is needed.
And its not all activity levels don't forget. Waste output, turning room, a lot of other things all come into play.

I'm sure if you look hard enough at "other sites" you'll even find 10g suitable for a GSP!

Well, I guess that just knocked both of those out of the competition for my 29 gal that I hope to have house another type of puffer in the future!

29 gallon tanks are a pain, and very misleading.
They really only hold 25 gallons (with no decor or substrate), and are hard to light for plants because they are tall.. I hate them. That must be why I have 3 of them running at the moment! ROFL

I love my 29 gal eclipse show tank....filter in the hood makes it very easy...has a biowheel which in my book is a big plus, and large enough to house a variety of fish, but still space effective. Not like the wall tank that we want when the kids are gone! I know alot of people really like to overfilter, and I'm not disagreeing, but for general tropical fish, this tank has been very stable and easy to care for for me. Much easier than the 10gal fry tank I have! This is the tank I hope to house another type of puffer in in the future.....must wait until some things settle down in my life so I know I have time to set up, care, observe, and thoroughly spoil my new baby. It is getting frustrating waiting because my tanks are understocked and I currently have room elsewhere for all of it's inhabitants to open up the 29, but don't want to bring a baby home and have my dad end up in the hospital again and I have to be gone.
