I had a betta in a 5g hex, but eventually that passed. I asked the fish experts where I buy all my fish what could live in a 5g and was told that if I was willing to try something new, I could try a F8 in brackish.
I've got two other tanks (FW) - 46g and 10g. Just bought a new 22g and was moving my guppies from the 10 to the 22. Then Chubby, my F8, would move on up to the 10g. Now, I'm reading here that is too small for a F8, too. What really is ideal for one lone F8?

15g minimum

IMHO(for all that is worth)...10 gal is ok for a young F8, anything under 2". That is assuming there is adequate overfiltration, and regular (5-6 day) water changes of 50%, and closely monitored feeding. At 2-3" unless you are really over filtering your water, there may not (most likely) be a enough surface area to grow enough beneficial bacteria to deal with the mess these guys can create. The added area for swimming also promotes good health, as they are quite active.

I agree with pegregrine on this, he has the exact same thoughts that I do on this topic.

and BTW, Chubby is a very good name for a F8
