I know that when certain fish die they can release toxins(ie cowfish)into the tank. I know that it is always best to qt a fish when sickness is observed. I just wanted to know if there are any puffers that could kill off a tank with inhabitants if they pass on?

Most of the experts around here have said this is not a problem with puffers. Most of the stuff I've seen mentioning toxins leaching into the tank are usually referring to boxfish/cowfish most of the time.

However, I don't know what would happen if a puffer died and other fish tried eating it...

If eaten, the fish can be poisoned. But they don't release their toxins into the water upon death.

Correct, none of my other fish were harmed in a puffer death.
