T.miurus weight, err, width…

At 3", I've been considering my T.miurus a juvie, and therefore, I have feeding him one salad/popcorn shrimp every other day. His shape makes it difficult for me to tell if he is overweight. He has a nice flat underside but he is becoming more triangular. Can anyone describe a fat T.miurus? (I obtained him 8mths ago when Nova had his horrible encounter with the Python).

I have the same problem. mine doesn't eat a lot but he seems extremely wide! He was eating every day when we got him but he is now also about 3 '' like yours and only feeds every 3 or 4 days at his request!! He went off live shrimps but likes live big fat blood worms. He often reburies when there are is still a worm wiggling about so I don't think he overeats. I think they are pretty wide and solidly built fish!

To be honest, I have the same problem with my Palembang's puffer. If were any other puffer, I would think it overfed from the silhouette as seen from above, but the profile is fine. When in "hunchbacked" position, it looks underfed. The lurkers seem to spread in their horizontal plane, rather than getting the belly the active hunters show.

Mine also is a triangular shape--very wide, but flat on bottom.

Makes sense...you can't lurk in sand very well if you've got a great gut-bucket to roll around on

Thanks guys. I'll just keep an eye on him then. As with all my other Puffs, this one begs and acts starved. Any rolls or buldges in what seems to be the wrong place and I'll put him on a diet.

I have to go with the general consensus here. Mine seldom eats until it looks fat; it stops eating and buries itself quite frequently before finishing what I offer it.
It does look to have small tumors after eating, because whatever it eats balls up in it's stomach and shows through it's underside.
My suvattii is very similar, though it is a much larger fish. It often eats until it's stomach looks like it could blow open (only once a week).
