Hi, I wondered if anyone had any knowledge on the use of UV water treatment in terms of preventing algae outbreaks in brackish puffer tanks, and whether there were any side effects to:
a) the 'beneficial' bacteria in the nitrogen cycle;
b) the health of the puffer fish

Anyone use these?

The one I was looking at is:

Any info much appreciated! :)

No problems either with (a) or (b) -- but IME/IMO the effect on algae is only marginal.

Actually it is quite effective of free floating algae or what is called "Green Water".

But unless you already are plagued with GW, I wouldn't invest that kind of money.
