I have 2 new gsp that I got last Friday they are about 2". They are in a mature cycled tank I'm bringing up to brackish at this point it is 30 gal and has 60 tablespoons of marine salt in it, temp is 80- Nitrite o Ammonia 0 Nitrates 10 pH 8.0 last water change Monday
One had IP when I received them last Friday so I have been treating both with Parasite Clear (Praziquantel) 1/4 tablet food soak 2 hours 2 times a day
My problem is one has a couple of spots of Ich today when I fed AM med. What do I do? Do I stop the IP med and start the Quick Cure (AP) They are the only fish in the tank, well except for 2 ghost shrimp that have been in there a couple of weeks. I have had very good luck with Quick Cure and the one with the IP that was so sunken is starting to look good and stay rounder

I know 30 gal is to small for 2 gsp I ordered 2 f8's They don't keep Brackish tanks at this lfs they only order so thought he would be better with me

I would continue with IP treatments and start treating for ich. Read the sticky in the hospital forum on treating ich.

Hi I have read the sticky before ...my question was more would the quick cure (formalin & malachite green) and the 1/4 tablet of parasite clear (praziquantel) mix? Both these have been recommended here or do I just treat one or the other? Has anyomne treated for both of these at the sametime Ich & IP from what I have read both are common in new wild caught puffers.

I have treated for both at the same time, using parasite clear and the heat and salt treatment.

Thank you I'm just being slow I have been doing all the salt things except changing the tank I don't have another one so I guess I just didn't think of it as doing enough.. Thank you for your help I don’t think I worried this much when my kids were babies

I treated mine in the same tank, no QT tank.

I don't believe Quick Cure is mentioned in that article. As a matter of fact, I know it isn't.... I wrote it! I wouldn't add ich meds, for just a few spots. Heat, salt & large water changes. Continue treatment for IPs--you don't want the IPs to get immune to the med, by not doing the full treatment.

I’m sorry I didn't speak more clearly, I meant that it was recommended on this forum under the velvet thread not in the sticky. I'm following your advice in the sticky about the salt etc. The sticky explains it very clearly how the ich works and that helps a lot I really appreciate it. I just didn't know if I should treat with med's also. Below is the information that you posted that I was talking about. I'm just useing the salt etc. and med for the IP nothing else Oh and MelaFix for chew marks they had when they arrived.

The best cure for these protazoas are a combination of Malachite Green and Formalin. Clout works well on this too. You could try Formalin alone while increasing the water temp to 82 F and keeping up on the salt while doing your water changes.

Yes, but that might not be the best cure for scaless fish w/o gill covers. Like I said, if it's just a few spots...

I'm not using it I really want to do it naturally instead of taking a chance of harming them more by using chemicals than the ich would. I have finally reached 1.010 so the salt and temp should do it like you said. They only have a couple of dots and seem like they are doing good with the IP treatment, if I remember right I'm suppose to treat them 2 a day for 8 days is that right? LOL see I really do listen to everything you say I may not always understand and ask way to many questions but I know you know what you’re talking about. Thanks for the help

No problem! What temp is it up to now? 86 is recommended. Add an airstone, if they seem stressed.

I only have the temp at 82 I thought that was the top I could take a gsp so I'll get it up to 86 I do have an air stone in, it's in there all the time they like to play in the bubble. I'm doing the water changes and vac every 2 days.
