Monster F8!

According to the latest issue of Aquarium Fish mag, F8s grow to 7"! It also said 1-2 tbsp salt/gal was enough for them--no need to measure w/a hydrometer. Now I know why I cancelled my subscription...

Someone on AC recently quoted a Texas A&M site stating up to 8", and FW. Can you say Ceylon?
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
But I can also remeber a FAMA article which was worse.

I've seen that 7" statement on two other boards now, and the magazine article explains where it's coming from.

In looking for info on F8's, a lot of sites said that it is actually a FW puffer!

So does Fishbase, but to me that only means that none of them have ever done comparative life-cycle study on the fish, if they ever kept them at all. Their problem. Mine do just fine in BW, and do it much longer.

According to a guy that posted in another forum. Figure 8's in the wild are actually freshwater and they have never been found in brackish water. However it is agreed by professional fish keepers that they survive much better in captivity in light brackish conditions. This could be due to the salt adding more stabilty of the water, with buffering, lowering the ph or perhaps adding a certain mineral which the fish need to survive.
