mmm Our puffer larder is stocked

1 5 gal (I think...it's not big at all) plastic tank with some nuissance snails to make babies in, if they dont make babies the Lady at Petland said she'd keep a whole slew for us since we showed intrest in taking them out of her sight (we got about 8-10 of them! if not more)
in the freezer we have bloodworm cubes and brine shrimp cubes
and we have a container of freeze dried shirimp.
Figure I'd drop a snail in around supper each night and alternate between the bloodworm, brine shrimp and freeze dried (rehydrated over night in a bit of tank water) in the mornings...
Gonna have a very happy puffer I think hehehe. Variety is the spice of life

the freeze dried shrimp will probably get very soggy if left over night. I usually let it sit in a cup of tank water for 5 minutes or so, and swish it around to get the air out of it.
MTS = malaysian trumpet snails by the way, and are considered too hard for puffers to crunch without risking breaking a tooth.

Acctually after reading Rocker's article and looking at the pictures, they look more like pond snails than ramshorns. DEFINITELY not MTS' that's for sure..
I know I"m able to crush one between my fingers without much effort.

I've had too many skin punctures from crushed snail shells to do that anymore, no thanks. I use large heavy forceps. Two spoons will work also - just try to keep them separate from those you use routinely yourself.

Our table use escargot forks and clamps (does that device have a special name? I'm blank) are separate also - too many of our guests find the idea repulsive. If they knew that when we do indulge, the snails are the main course, not the appetizer - well, they might just be assured that we are mad rather than only lightly suspect it.
