OK so I am ready to start adding salt to my GSP tank. It is a 29 gallon. How do I go about it. I have the hydrometer and Instant ocean, everything is ready to go.

Is the puffer in there already?

With my green puffer in a tank with no salt to start with, I made up freshwater (50% of the tank water), got it up to temp, de-chlorinated it and added salt but by bit til it reached 1.003 so that when it was added to the tank, it would only hit around 1.0015 (don't increase the SHG in the tank by more than 0.002 a week).

I did leave it for a few hours before adding it to the tank and aerated it with a pump and stuck a heater in and then tested the sg again before pouring in. Now I don't bother as the salt does dissolve fairly quickly and I vigorously stir it til it has all 'disappeared'. The hydrometer needs a good rinse before and after use in freshwater to remove any salt deposits

Further down the line, still changing 50%, when the SG was at 1.004, I made up water to 1.007 so that the whole tank sg hit 1.0055 (just under the 0.002 recommended max increase)
