when i feed my fahaka crayfish sometimes he'll just give up because he cant win. its like he wants to eat it but the crayfish puts up a fight and the puffer just gives up. i thought fahakas are supposed to be vicious hunters. i have a 6-7" fahaka vs. a 4" crayfish. he cant even bite thru the claws (i have to snip it off for him). what are your thoughts? do i have a lazy puffer?

Early on my Fahaka would sometimes get intimidated by the larger crayfish, but as time goes by he gets more aggressive.

i dont envy that red-tailed shark

my fahaka is even more vicious then that that other fahaka. Mine tears the crayfish apart the second it is in the tank.

Best thing to do is leave the cray whole 'n healthy, when your fahaka gets hungry enough the killer instinct will take over. While you are making things easy for him it's natural not to bother too much, after all if you had permanent free room service you wouldn't start cooking would you?

Seen it before but I do like that video, the music goes very well with it. That's gotta be the most terrified red-tail shark though, when I first saw it when he turns near the end I thought that sharks a goner.

Great looking Fahaka though.

That is odd, my 4" GSP would handily take out 3" crayfish. I would think a fahaka that size would destroy them.

IMO every animal is different, maybe he doesn't consider the "battle" worth the food...why fight for food when its readily handed to you otherwise...

i was watching it longer while it feeds. i think he actually likes taking his time. he'll bite off a leg and then hide while the crayfish calms down and then bite another leg off. after he bit all the legs off....he went for the eyes....and then all of a sudden he just bit right into the tail. this was all during a span of 30 minutes. he really couldnt bite thru the claws tho but nevertheless, he has strategy. lol

I would have thought a red tail shark would make a reasonable tank mate with a Fahaka (Although in reality, nothing would maybe be a more sensible choice?). I have a Panda Garra in with mine. It wasn't deliberate initially, the Garra was chased my SAP to death (They're recently discovered so not a lot is known about their behaviour) so I put him in with the fahaka for what was going to be a temporary solution. 2 months on, and there have been no problems. The garra is too fast for the fahaka, and has too many places to hide. The fahaka doesn't even bother any more, and the most he used to do was spit at the garra anyway. A RTBS is similar in shape as the garra too, which is why I think you would be able to get away with a sleek fast moving cyprinid in a fahaka tank if there are plenty of hiding places.
