Something SAPs eat... woodlice (pillbugs)

Ran out of bloodworms this week, and my SAPs at least aren't that fond of snails. They'll eat 'em, sure, but not with any enthusiasm. Anyway, tried woodlice, which I have lots of in the garden. Crunch crunch crunch! No idea if they're any good for the beak trimming thing, but the SAPs seemed to like them.
By the way, I'm feeding them once a day. Is that often enough for these energetic little puffers?

I think ideal feeding paterns for most fish would be several smaller meals through out the day, especially for very small and very active fish. Unfortunately, that sort of schedule doesn't always fit well with real life.
The pillbugs sound like a good option as long as we're always mindful of pesticides and the like. I'd only feed wild gathered live food if I was certain there wasn't any exposure to chemicals.

They are pretty crunchy, they are not snails, but harder than shrimp or bloodworms by a comfortable margin.

I know of other people feeding general tropical fish woodlice successfully

My rainbows have been having a great deal of fun with bugs this summer. Spiders have been munched, flies, woodlice, mosquitos (haha!) but by far the most exciting was the praying mantis that somehow fell into the tank. A full 2.5" long, he put up quite a fight until the cichlids noticed the fun...
