Well I found a petsmart today that gets a shipment of DP's every tuesday. The lady said that they don't live very long...actually she said most of them die during shipping. They are taken from the amazon river and there might be some sort of bacteria or something that is killing them...she usually only has 2 that are alive and they die soon after being put in the tank.
Does any of this sound like something that could be the truth?

It seems the majority of them tend to be infested with intestinal parasites and the LFS/LPSes don't know or care enough to treat them, so they suffer and die.

Well if I was to get lucky enough to get one tuesday what would be the best way to treat it?

Start treating it with intestinal parasite medication immediately (read the sticky in the hospital thread). They must eat the food, its not enough to treat the water. And they must be quarantined or your other fish will catch IPs too.
