I don't have a web cam but this is what my puffer looks like exactly and someone mentioned to me that this is possibly not a Spiny Boxfish. I was on yahoo messenger when someone asked me about my picture.

It's spikes as I call them are constantly erect and she does seem more like a Spiny boxfish by description including teeth. Found one dead along the shore today while fishing, how sad, and I took a look at the teeth.

It ate a whole hermit crab overnight. Purchased one and put it in tank after quarantine. It was a small hermit. Half the size of my puffer. My puffer is currently 6 1/2 inches.

What makes you think it's not one? Looks just like every pic I've ever seen of them & every live one I've seen, in tanks & in the ocean.

I'm a little confused because of the markings at its eyes.

I'm told it has a different name but I seem to find it under the one I have ID as.

I guess it depends on what region it is found at.

I see some pictures without the markings at the eyes and some that don't.

this is what got me to think that I have the wrong ID for it.

I just came across a site that has it as a different scientific name. I see if I can find it again and post it.

Okay it is definitely a boxfish or burrfish but which one?

It is striped and more greenish/yellowish color with the black markings on body (none on fins) and eyes.

I'm looking for the scientific name of it now.

Burrfish not boxfish.

Chilomycterus schoepfi - just like any of the puffers - many variations.

It is definitely not a chilomycterus antillarum if that is what you are possibly thinking or have been told.

I got that part. I have been looking for better pictures over the internet and here is one that is like it color and all.

It is something how there are quite a few that look like it.

How big will it get? I knew I was on the right path.

Web cam arrived but had to send it back since it was broken when I opened the packaging.

okay sent a picture to the Florida wildlife and they stated it is a burrfish and they are going to email me some information on it so I can learn about it.

They were not aware this burrfish was caught in my area. they are going to send an official out to get a snapshot of mine for reporting reasons.

They are not sure of the exact full grown size or even the exact species.

Okay, so I understand now it is a burrfish not a boxfish.

Heck, there really don't seem to be a difference but the color, size, and shape. So confusing.

Nope, they just left my house. They were very please with my Burrfish. They found about 50 washed up on shore yesterday and they stated they are left on shore to die by most fisherman.

It is definitely one they have not heard of in this part of Florida.

They took a snap shot and will provide me with the scientific name later. I took notice with all the different burrfish out there and the size difference.

They did state it is not a Chilomycterus schoepfi. They did state it is in the same family though.

It's body reminds me of a triangle but on the rounded side. More wider in the front and then slimmer in the back.

Has a lot of Spunk and energy.

I changed the lighting to a natural daylight and it looks more yellowish/green with brown stripes and black spots and mask.

I just want a positive ID on it so I can make the tank more like her natural environment.

Spots:

2 on each side
3 by tail (can almost connect to make a triangle)

7 spots in total.

Awwww... how big is it? Looks little.

3 inches in length. It has only grown an inch since first got it.

It loves being in the 55 tank. I'm using a Penguin 350 Bio-wheel Power Filter and a Cascade Power Filter (enough for 45 gallons) for filtration.

I know it can be found in the local waters of Florida though.

Anybody know what type of snails these are? I got them from the same river as my Burrfish. I treated them at the same time as my puffer.

I'm nearly positive i've seen those from some of our members from Taiwan too.

So uh, what kinda is that and how big do they get? lol, we need a "Dwarf Porc"
