I bought "proper pH 8.2" for my hospital tank but when asking about it was told to not buffer as the fluctuations are more dangerous than a stable lower pH.

I guess my question is whether my current 7.6(stable there) is ok or should I try to use this stuff to keep it up at 8.2.

I can certainly add the packets to my mixing water to keep it all at 8.2.

Is 7.6 bad for them and harmful to the healing process?

Some people are saying don't buffer, some say buffer. I don't want to start anything but which is it?

Stable is always more important than a specific number.

For a hospital tank you'll be doing very frequent very large water changes, so trying to buffer the pH is pointless.
