Help please....My green spotted puffer has developed and some sort of growth on its right side fin. I need help so that I can treat it before it's too late!!

Figures... the blurriest part of the pic is the growth. It almost looks like a tumor. Any way to get a sharp close-up of that? How long have you had this fish?

That seems a bit fast for a tumour. Has he had any rough handling recently...netting..contact with human hands...
I'm asking cos my F8 Robert got some swelling on a pectoral fin (same fin as your guy) after he jumped out of the tank during a water change, and my partner Steve had to rescue him with alcohol/tobacco/greasy kebab contaminated hands. (We'd just got back from the pub...this is not a snapshot of our lives...well....the kebab isn't)
The swellings on his fin stayed for a good three weeks, and responded well to Melafix. The oils on human hands, and, I should think, fags, booze and kebabs, disrupt their slime coat, and might let in infections.

For the benefit of any Americans that are not familiar with British terminology, fags are cigarettes as opposed to the meaning that most Americans think of when they hear "fags".

It is basically a turkish version of gyro and is served wrapped in pita bread with garlic sauce, lettuce, tomato and sometime feta cheese. Delicous and usually very cheap. Now I have a craving for one!

How embarrassing....I forget...same language, but oceans apart.......and it was quite late. I was a bit worse for wear.
We use that word in a similar way here as well, but it's unusual, so people assume you mean a cigarette.
You'd crack up if you saw some off the off-licences (liquor stores) in deprived areas of the north...Crazy Phil's Fags and Booze. He's crazy, apparently, cos he sells them so cheaply.
Anyway...thougts on this gsp? I'm for an abscess, as surely a week's not long enough for a tumour.

claytonfaulkner: It is difficult to tell anything by the picture. Any chancou can get a closer or at least clearer view of the spot? Is it a solid mass or does it look like a fungus? When you said "a week and a half", were you answering PP's question about how long you have had the puffer or Pamela's question about how long the spot has existed?

Also,please answer ther questions in the stickie at the top of this forum.
