Only till it was 2", then you'd have to upgrade to at least a 30g. They like lots of swimming room & grow to 6". Check out the article on them in our Library.

Depends on what size it starts out as. Mine started at 2" & grew to 6" within 2 years.
Man, you're a fast reader!

Extra filtration as in over filtration, easiest way is to get a filter that is rated for more gallonage than your tank, the flow rate of the water will be more through the filter as its designed for a bigger tank removing more waste from the water. You'll still need to do your regular water changes to keep the nitrates under control and as puffers are quite messy feeders a 50% weekly change is a good place to start.

I wouldn't recommend putting a gsp in a 15g tank at all. I would put it in a 30g at least to start - so you can be sure it won't suffer from any stunting...and when it gets closer to full-grown it will be ready for something even bigger (50+).
If you already have the 15g and you're dead-set on it, just make sure you have the over-filtration covered (like them other guys done said), with a consistent water-change regimen (at least once a week).
For a 15g tank, you should get a filter rated for at least 30 gallons.

GSPs only need 30 gallons each...

Whats that all about? I mean, i suppose I could be wrong, I don have a GSP, but a 30 gallon tank is suppose to be fine right?

30 is the minimum. Like most fish, the more room you can give them, the better.

I'm not saying you have to...but a 6 " puffer, let alone any fish, is pretty big for a 30 gallon tank.

the guide is 30 gallons to 1 GSP ratio but if you can provide more gallonage per fish then all the better.
How does the saying go.... minimum tank size = maximum maintenance and care.

Oh I know, but this kid is trying to get by with a 15, so lets not spook him by saying you'll need a 50 gallon later whe, while it's not optimal, it will be sufficent in a 30, 35 gallon tank. He most certianly won't need a 50 gallon tank.

While the fish may not need 50 gallons, when its full marine, it may be a lot easier to maintain a stable environment, plus there is the added expense of converting it to full marine and maintaining it. All of these needs to be taken into account. If there is any doubt that the 15 cannot be upgraded at the time it is needed it is better to know all this information now than down the line.
IMO a GSP is not on the cards at the moment, I believe seroes search for Dwarf Puffers would be much more suited to the tank he has.

oh... I thought he had a GSP already. Sorry. Should've read above.
