My wife, Jamie, went to the LFS and got two new F8s yesterday. No names for them as of yet. Since we live in the south I was thinking that maybe some good southern names might be in order. Personally I was thinking Bubba, Joe Bob, Billy Bob or Roy. My wife was thinking Darrell, Dixie, or Daisy.

Take a look at them, what do you think are good southern names that apply to these guys?








Currently they're in a 20g hex with a Marineland Penguin 200B with play sand as substrate. Still freshwater. I'll convert over to light brackish over the next month or so. We've got a large fake plant in there and they seem to adjusting well.

The filter was an extra on my Fahaka tank that I'm going to replace with a Fluval 4+. So no Bio-Spira was used in the tank.

Jamie made sure to get easily recognizable differing patterns so we could tell one from the other. For some reason whenever we get two fish at the same time there is an inexplicable urge to give one a male and one a female name - even when the sex is unknown. And we always give the 'pretty one' a female name and the 'other guy' a male name.

If the pictures were better you'd see that the top one is more 'striking' than the other and hence more likely to get the female name.

Anyways, so you gonna get a bigger tank for em eventually?

You can see the striking difference in patterns on the 2. Although I gotta say I like the bottom ones pattern best, the other is a bit busy for me but still very nice.

I have both kinda patterns and my 3rd is like the bottom one, but the fig-8 on back and 'eye spots' are more rounded n almost perfectly smooth, and outside those, hes almost pitch black! Thats why we named him blackie!

Jamie added a small crayfish similar in size to the puffers to the tank. Over a period of 5 minutes they relentlessly attacked the cray, systematically removing its claws and then eventually killing it. They proceeded to pick at it and eat on it for the next 15 minutes. They worked as a team the whole time, I'm not sure one of them could have taken it down but working together they did a fantastic job!!!!

I think they would have finished it off faster if they would have had longer teeth but they couldn't get any grip on it to rip the flesh out.

Very interesting behaviour, I wonder if there was a shoal of say 6 or so they would all work together to take down large prey. Puffer's hunting in packs maybe.

It's funny, I always understood Puffers were solitary and wary of each other.

My GSPs always eat together - but it seems to be a pretty perilous relationship they have with each other!
