What can I do for Cloudy eye? Will Melafix work? I just took notice to Brindy having a cloudy eye this morning.

What causes it? What treats it and how much?

Is it one eye or both?
What are your water parameters? (post specifics please as people vary in what is "normal" or "good")
Any other symptoms? Spots on fins or body? Change in appetite? Breathing faster or slower than before the cloudy eye?
Do NOT add melafix - have seen numerous accounts/reports of saltwater fish "suffocating" with this med.

I have experienced fish with extremely labored breathing with the use of Pimafix/ Melafix. I used to be their biggest proponent but I've changed my mind on them at least for saltwater.

Luckily I did not add it.

I changed the lighting on the tank and that cloudy eye disappeared.

I was using a blue spectrum marine light and changed it to a natural daylight and that cloudy eye was gone.

Someone how that marine light was doing something to the tank that made her eye look cloudy. Even the water looked cloudy.

This is what I was seeing in my puffers eyes

Their eyes are golden yellow with iridescent blue-green specks in the pupil.

It was the blue-green specks I was seeing that caused me to get alarmed.


I came across this site looking for some pictures to possibly have added to the encyclopedia of puffers.
