My boyfriend wants a 20-30 gallon tank with balloon belly mollies and shrimp. If I put some mollies in there I would like to make it brackish but I don't know if the shrimp can handle it and he is really set on both.

They can probably handle it quite well. There are actually SW variants of ghost shrimp.

Thanks, this should probably be in the brackish section sorry guys. But, do you know if cherry shrimp could handle it as well?

That I'm not positive of, but I do know there are many shrimp species who can handle brackish and in fact use brackish or marine conditions to have their young.

It may depend on what SG you choose to use.

What would be a good SG for mollies anyone know?

I have bubble belly mollies in my reef tank (1.025) and in my F8 tank (1.005). All are breeding.

I used to have a brackish tank with a f8 and three ghost shrimp. The shrimp are still alive six months later. They did quite well in brackish water.

Just don't put them in with any snails. They will suck the snails out of their shells.

I buy ghost shrimp by the dozen for puffer food/amusement.
Since I don't care much about their health, I dump them from FW straight into 1.025 SW.

Amazingly, having done this dozens of times, I have never seen a mass shrimp die off, and deaths are from the puffers, not environmental, with a few clever shrimp avoiding the puffs for several weeks even. So I would imagine if you actually took time and care to adjust your ghost shrimp, they would do well at any SG.

SO my gsp will eat some ghost shrimps? and does it help with their teeth any or are they too small and weak?

I got some today, the GSP immed. ate one...spit it out and ate it again...my frog also ate one...so I have a 3 gallon with about 18 just swimming around waiting to be eaten. There are still 2 live ones in the puffer tank...he is just playing with them now...this is as active as I have ever seen him.
