GSP

I am getting a large GSP tommorrow, i know they require at least 30 gallons but do they need more when they are full grown, and i believe he is in fresh water at the moment, can somone tell me how to make the change to salt water and over how long of a period or direct me to a link that could i would greatly appreciate any of your expert oppions.

I currently have a 29 gallon tank and a 55 gallon tank, i have a 3 1/2 " humpback puffer and i'm getting a gsp that is around 4 " tommorrow, witch fish should go where, do you think that one of these fish will be happy in a 29 or should i just get another 55.

a GSP at any age is good in a 30 gallon tank (29 is ok). I dunno about the himpback tho, I don't know enough about them to tell you if he'd be ok in the 55 gallon.
But so long as the GSP is alone, the 29 gallon will be fine.

According to pufferlst.com 30 gallons is good for a humpback but i have read 40 gallons is more suitable for them her on the forum.

40g is probably more suitable for both, but the gsp will be fine in the 29 if provided good conditions (complex environment and water current)
I don't know a lot about the humpback, so maybe someone else can give an opinion on that one.

I do have to very respectfully disagree with the 29 gallon view Phaedrus. I belive that 30 gallons of water may be ok for an adult GSP, but one has to consider substrate and decor that goes into a tank. To me, a 'nominal' 40-gallon is the smallest tank that comes close to holding 30 gallons of water after all is said and done.

lisalisa is correct.
Given the situation, I'm not sure which would do best in the 55 and which would do best in the 29. If these are the only tanks you have, maybe you should sell the 29 and get another 55. That way both puffers would be well taken care of.

I think i'll just buy another 55 and keep the 29 for the congo puffer i really want but cannot find, it's very irritating
