So. You'd think that lion fish (voltions?) and puffers wouldn't be a great mix. Or at least I thought so. But yesterday I saw a Dog-Faced puffer and a lion fish just chillin in the same tank. Opposite sides, but they seemed peaceful enough.

Was this in a local petstore?

Any fish can look like it's doing well in a tank with a puffer, but eventually that tank mate could get nipped. Rocker just had that experience recently, and I'm hoping my F8 will stay peaceful. *crossing fingers*

I wouldn't try that combo myself because I don't think either the lion fish or the puffer would fare well if there was an incident considering both are poisonous.

I have seen Porkys and lionfish int he same tank all the time. My LFS has a BEATIFULL Lionfish (full grown) in with a Porky.

Bad mix, IMO. Lion's fins will be too hard to resist eventually!

Most of the time, I think, LFSes can get away with stuff like that because its short-term and the fish are stressed out from shipping. Once it gets settled in for the long haul, I doubt things will be quite as hunky dory.

Yeah. Thats what I was thinking. The puffer wont be as "docile" after awhile.

My hubby wanted to get a lionfish to put in with my Porky but here's the problem - I love Porky. I could never risk him getting stabbed by the lionfish. He pressed the issue because he really likes lions but he understands I love Porky like he's a puppy so we got another tank and then got his lionfish. Lions are beautiful but have about as much personality as a wet rag, IMO.

My Porky is extremely docile even my engineer goby, a very mellow fish, routinely shoves him away from food. My volitans is also very mellow but has poked my glove a few times from fear so if he gets startled he could easily poke something and one poke and that's that for any fish. Our volitan lion has no tank-mates except hermit crabs, snails, and urchins.
