Anyone had any luck with any sites that you can order puffers online from? I am setting up my first puffer tank and want 2 GSPs and a F8, but have had no luck with any LFS in my area. Just wondering if this is a viable option. Thanks

I would not recommend mixing the puffers together for two reasons. They may fight, maybe not as soon as you put them in but it could be after a few years and is not worth doing. Secondly, the F8s stay in brackish water (1.005) and so do the GSPs as babies but as time goes, GSPs need marine water (1.026).

Just regurgitating information here,

GSPs max out at 6", sometimes larger (view pufferpunk's tanks), and F8s only 3".

That would also cause a lot of problems down the road. Ceylons mix well with GSPs (of course it's always case-by-case with puffers), but they max out at 8". 30+ gallons each is a nice rule to follow so they have room to grow. If they are well fed and have a lot of space then most of the times puffers will tolerate their tankmates.

With Brackish Puffers you really only have the choice of species only tanks or maybe mixing, as I said above, a GSP with a Ceylon. This is because of size and salinity as Raphael said.

GSPs are wonderful puffers if you have the space, I miss mine a lot. They're very interactive and cute as buttons!

Yea F8s tend to not have the same water requirements of a GSP. ALTHOUGH I have seen one kept for a long time in a saltwater aquarium.

But once they get bigger its highly likely that the larger puffs would fight with the little one. Dont do it.

Just to give you an idea of what to prepare for

I was actually planning on separating the F8 into its own tank with possibly another F8 or two once I could set up another tank. I didnt realise Ceylons were better tank mates though, so I will probably end up going with one of them instead of the F8 to avoid any problems. Do Ceylons end up as full marine as well? Also, when do they and the GSPs switch over to full marine .. is it a gradual thing through their adolesence or is their a point at which you should start to introduce more salinity? I purchased them by accident yesterday and some guys/ gals gave me some info about them.. They look like a cross between a Figure 8 and a GSP.

Do any of you guys know any websites that sell South American Puffers? I haven't had any luck so far.

Jeeze... I'm so tempted to setup a section in my basement so I can stock stuff for people on the forum...
