Hello,

Haven't posted in here in a long time. I have a Fahaka in a 100gallons tank. He's all by himself in that tank. I've notice these blackish hair-like algea poping up here and there in the aquarium. Sometimes on decors, other times in the windows and now on a live plant. The tank has been running for a two and a half years, I've noticed these thing appearing for the last year.

Lights are on daily for 8hours. Water temperature's at 81degrees.

There are hard, almost impossible to just stratch off of what they are attached to, so I'm scared that they spread in the aquarium.

I've heard that, hopefully I remember the name right, firefox fish would eat that. But being with a fahaka, not sure if the firefox would eat it before getting eaten himself.

Does anybody know what they are and what would get rid of those without doing any damage to the puffer?

Thank you for the link that was a very interesting article!!! My algae seems to be the one they call Black beard algae. They suggest going with the CO2 treatment. I ordered a bottle and will try. If no good results come from it, I will try the H²O² as they also suggest to locally fog the region with that if the first don't work.

But I did not find a specific bottle for aquariums, is it literally peroxide you find at the pharmacy?

Yes, I regularly dose a shot glass/10g every other day. It also works great in keeping your fish alive if your power goes out.

Sorry for the delay, I was waiting on the product to come in to give updates if it worked or not but I did not receive it yet.

What would be the benefit of adding peroxide every other day? If it saves the fish when power goes out I imagine that it must make some sort of chemical reaction inside the tank that creates oxygen or detoxifies some other element? Now you got me curious

In addition to killing algae, plants look pretty cool because they are pearling bubbles.

Alright, here's the update on the CO2... so far it didn't work...

I have been putting slightly more than the required minimum dose but less that the maximum written on the bottle. I tried putting the product randomly in the aquarium and also locally where there is more of the algae but sadly so far no results.

I want to finish the CO2 treatment before trying the H2O2. I've been doing it for 12 days now, I have enough product for roughly 25 days, with no results yet, should I stop the treatment now or should I keep going a little longer?

On the bottle it's marked to use for a few days to see results, but what's a few days?

I know you only recommended the H2O2 but the website you share suggested the CO2. So I stopped trying with the CO2 and I have started the H2O2 to test. By regularly do you mean once a week or more often than that?
