Arrowhead Puffer Diet and Husbandry Questions

Hi everyone! I’m seeking advice from actual keepers here vs the copious articles I’ve read, which I’m grateful for, but there’s some conflicting information.

1) The feeding recommendation for an adult seems to be widely 3x per week. I’m seeing nothing on how *much* to feed him. I have no idea what is too much, too little, etc. How do you know?

2) How often would you change your water due to the messy nature of how they eat? I was considering doing a small partial today after he ate some earthworms cause it was just.. very messy. I typically aim for 1x a week with all tanks, and I was thinking 30-40% for him? I’m running two sponge filters and a HOB.

3) What do YOU feed your arrowhead puffer? Lots of conflicting info here as well! I have purchased (and won’t be upset if I can’t use it)

- live nightcrawlers
- live ghost shrimp
- frozen shrimp with tail on
- fresh tilapia, cubed and frozen
- crab leg tips
- mussels

- I have an abundance of MTS, they’re small though, and I’m seeing a lot of things about their shell hardness being detrimental.

That’s all for now I think! Any tips, tricks, tank photos, etc, I’d be super grateful for. Thank you all in advance for your time!

I’ve read that arrowhead article inside and out (it’s why I got the nightcrawlers actually and plan on sourcing other bugs!) My issue presently is knowing / how to know if I’m feeding too much or too little.

Presently with messy foods (so far just the shrimp and worms) I will turkey baste any mess out immediately.

I hadn’t seen the pea puffer article, and this gave me a lot of info I did not know about them, so thank you very much! He has a very “busy” tank with a large driftwood piece and many plants, but I have water lettuce AND moss to spare that I’ll be giving to him as well.

Feed him whatever he'll eat in 5 minutes.
