Are there any good online stores that sell F8s. Also does anyone have experience acclimating them with out having them puff air since the water they ship in should not be put in a tank.

If they are the only/first fish to go into the tank, I would add the source water. As for acclimating, I use the common 'drip' method.

I also use the "drip" method.

i usually add the source water if its the only fish going in the tank, if not i make sure there is as little "air time" as possible. no more then a half second or so.

I like singleton puffers, so I added the water to my tank. I didn't do the drip method, but rather took several hours to slowly add some tank water to the bag after floating for 20 minutes so the temperature would be the same...it works out the same as the drip method - just less scientific and you need to be willing to do it for an hour or two.

The easiest way IMHO is to remove half of the water from the bag that the fish comes in. Start a slow drip using a piece of airline tubing and a gang valve or by crimping the airline tubing with a rubber band, draining water from the tank to the bag. When the water in the bag has reached the original level, remove half of the water (toss it out of course) and continue the slow drip process. Do this at least four or five times.

Float the bag in the tank for a few minutes to fine tune the temperature, gently submerge the bag and let the fish swim out. Any water remaining in the bag at this point can either be added to the tank or tossed.

I slow drip all new fish for at least 20 minutes. If the temperature, PH or SG difference is high, I slow the drip even more and extend this process to several hours or even in stages over a period of several days.

I'm even lazier - I tie it in a knot.

I also use drip, and knot the line , its just so easy and a great way to acclimate. if i want to speed up or slow the drip i just loosen or tighten the knot accordingly. Since i never like to add the store water to the tank i do this for several hours , remove a percentage of the water , then let more drip in , until i feel they are done and very little of the original water remains.

Where are you? Other than the GSP, the F8 is the most commonly sold puffer available.

I don't know wheather they are reliable or not since I live in the UK and I have never ordered one.

I know people who have ordered from them and had no problem. I order from their sister company, Drs. Foster & Smith, several times a month for dog and fish supplies and they are really wonderful. GREAT customer support.

I order from Drs. Foster and Smith for my bird paraphernalia and I haven't had any problems with them either. I was thinking about ordering a fish from them.
