Strong Current

I had a problem where the bio-wheel in my filter wasn't spinning, or was spinning too slow- I've recently replaced the filter and solved this issue. However, the water coming in from the filter now seems to be generating too much of a current. I know pea puffers aren't strong swimmers and I'm not sure what to do. They seem to be getting pushed to the left side of the tank and occasionally turn sideways in trying to swim away from the left. All the food I put in goes directly to the left, as well as the floating plants, so I know it's a current issue. It's an entirely new problem so I'm not sure what I can do about it. Is there a way to mitigate it?

Cut a sponge & put it over the intake.
