Crushed Coral and sand substrate mix?

I am new to this forum and keeping pufferfish and appreciate all the great info here!

I have 3 GSPs that are currently in quarantine now and have my display tank ready for them. Currently, my display tank has black sand as the substrate and the PH has been steady at 7.8. I was thinking about mixing Florida Crushed Coral to help buffer/raise my PH to 8. would that be a good idea? or would putting the crush coral in my HOB filter be better?

thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome!
I think it would look goofy with the black sand. Just put it in the filter. How large is the display tank?

thanks for the reply!

Plan is to put them in a 30 gallon grow out tank and then into a 55 gallon.

Sorry, not nearly large enough for 3 adult GSPs. Even my 2 didn't have enough swimming room in a 55. Please consider a 90 or even better a 120g. Do you plan on eventually going full SW?

yes, that was my plan to go full saltwater.

Thanks for the suggestion on a larger tank...will definitely look into that.
