So my figure 8 puffer sucked in air while feeding at the top of the water, I tried to burp him with no success. What are the chances he will solve this issue by himself

Possibly, none. Exactly how did you try to burp him? Try holding upright (head up but underwater) & lightly press on his belly, from tail end towards the head. Hold in a net.
