Hi there.

Went into a more than decently stocked shop in my hometown the other day, and had a chat with the manager.
Know him fairly well, have bought several puffers from him over the years.
He is a dedicated aquarist and diver, and I see no reason to not trust him.

Told me he had been diving inland (and I mean REALLY FAR FROM THE OCEAN INLAND) in South America, and had spotted a 30 cm+ C. asellus-like puffer.
My bet would be a T. psittacus, but as I understand it they do not venture this far in to fresh waters.
Thoughts?

Just heard back from Wes, he says: " For sure psittacus. They can live in pure freshwater for a long time"

Life is well, busy as hell.
Only three tanks active for the moment.
Pufferless after my GSP Izabella passed away some time back.
Considering converting two tanks back into Puffer-tanks this year.

Yes, life is good! Especially since moving from Chicago to SC (near the mountains), almost 4 years ago. I gave up my reef tanks but now have my own fish room with huge tanks. I am presently keeping 5 puffers.

Unfortunately, I have not heard from Robert since before I moved. He went blind & stopped posting here, answering my calls or emails. I pray he's still alive. I actually had the wonderful opportunity to finally meet him & his lovely wife & spent a day with them, about 5 years ago.

I got one from him last week. Hands down has been one of the coolest I have ever kept. Hasn't shown any aggression other than running a curious Siamese algae eater away from his food. Would highly recommend.

Yea and everything I have been able to find out about they can stay at a pretty low level of salinity for most if not al of there life. Mine is just in quarantine in freshwater. Once my Archerfish get here this week I will be quarantining/medding then move them all to the 180g then keeping them in very low end brackish.
