Snails and ick?

So the hubby went out and bought snails and a mollie for our puffer. Mollie was not food, just happened to get one for our girls tank. And He put them all in the qt tank, and noriced after A few hrs that the Fish he picked out was sick. So he medicated the tank. Are the snails safe to give to our puffer? Im concerned that the snail's could carry illness's and my 4 mo old fahaka puffer could get them. I'm still learning as this is my first puffer. Tyvm!
