Large dp tank

Post by Reeferpuffer » Mon Oct 22, 2018 4:34 pm

I have a 45 cube set, planted and ready to go for my first tank to my puffer room.
I've looked all over the web and have actually not found any instance of someone having a species only of dwarf puffs in a large tank. So what are your thoughts? How many can comfortably live in there?

I have a pipette to selectively feed bloodworms so I can minimize squabbles over food, that was my solution when i had the 4 of them years ago. Aside from that they will have a plethora of snails to nibble on.

Im interested to know what some think about having a large community of dwarf puffers will be like

You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

They will be fine in a bigger tank and love it.
8 dwarfs are in a 24x24x30 tower with the driftwood maze.

Tip #1.
Have a time out quarantine tank for multiple puffers that are acclimating.
Some may need a time out if they are naughty.
It's a good extra tank to have new plants or driftwood soak in while they get placed into the nicer display tank over time.

Puffer punk did have a nice reply a while back to a question whether small puffers could find food in big tanks.
They reply was a simple answer to realizing the massive water amount puffers live with out in the wild.

I'd probably do between 8 and 12, preferably closer to 8. Just make sure that the filtration is adequate for a 45, but cannot suck up any of the fish.
187 Gallon - 1 Signata Stingray
50 Gallon - 3 Roseline Sharks, 1 Hujeta Gar, 1 Striped Thorny Catfish
34 Gallon - 1 Duboisi Puffer
28 Gallon - 1 Red Congo Puffer
10 Gallon Planted - 1 Dwarf Puffer
6 Gallon Feeder - Red Cherry Shrimp, Guppies
