Do dwarf puffers need snails/have beak fusing problem?

Post by snacksforfindlay » Sun Jun 10, 2018 7:53 pm

I'm planning on getting a group of dwarf puffers (10-20) to add to my 60 gallon aquarium which currently only has a few small Cory's and a couple Kuhli loach. I want to keep these with a school or two of peaceful tetras, probably several neons and maybe one other school of similar temperament/sized tetras. I can't really think of any problem with that though I'm a little rusty at the hobby but my main concern is whether or not the dwarf puffer actually needs to have pest snails to eat regularly or not. I have read conflicting things on other parts of the internet the typical consensus being that supposedly no they do not have the same beak issues as other puffer fish though everything I know about puffers makes this sound wrong to me. My dad had a couple in a community tank for a while that seemed to be doing well after I got them eating again on a diet of frozen blood worms and never got snails. Is this sustainable long term or will they starve?

They do not have the normal puffer dentistry requirements. I highly suggest against putting your puffers with ANY of those fish. They are like mini-piranhas.
