Do I change my pea puffers filter once a month ?

what size of tank, what kind of filter, what kind of filter media, how often does it get dirty, how many fish, tankmates, what kind of foods, how much food do they leave behind and do you pick up the leftovers right away, do you stir the sand regularly, how often do you change water...............?
All of this will have a bearing on filter maintenance.
You can also do frequent light cleanings and less frequent "deep cleanings, depending on the necessity.
