I would start by just raising the temp to 86, add 1tbsp salt/5g & doing good/sized water changes, cleaning the gravel, as the article on ich in this section of the forum suggests. None of that is harmful to your fish & you don't have to use meds.

Although, if your fish are showing signs of irritation and flashing, then it's not really just prevenetitive, there are signs of something wrong.
