My newly bought fahaka which is about 5 inch has trouble biting small pieces of mp or market prawn.

Some background: Had him for about a week now. Only realized it had a protruding anus after I brought it home. Have since added epsom salt and treated for IPs.

Now it has trouble eating some pieces of mp. It will try to bite and it would seem as though it had overgrown teeth but upon closer inspection I do not see any overgrown teeth or much of any teeth at all. Plus it is only 5 inches so I doubt the inability to eat mp is due to overgrown teeth

What seems to be the problem?

Does it seem he can open his mouth at all?

Yes he is able to open his mouth. A couple of days back I did see him eat some mp with ease. So it is puzzling to see him struggle to eat today.

He is also a fahaka that tolerates tankmates, has a school of small silver dollars for company.

Try tossing in earthworms & see if he eats those.
