Just wondering if anyone here uses nsw. Got a great spot 15 min drive from my house where the water tests great! Can pump it straight into the containers by the car too. Met loads of reef keepers there swearing by how much better their tank looks etc. I personally just want to save some money and double my changes. Thoughts? A group I saw recently just go home drain and tip in, I warm it and filter it in a spare tank prior to use.

I don't personally because I don't have a marine tank, the only recommendation that I've read is to collect it a little way from the shore to minimise the chance of collecting pollutants and also to watch that you don't collect harmful critters. If you do choose to collect local sea water I doubt that you would collect so many copepods to drastically pollute your tank when they die off due to the temperature change.

This collection point is on a platform, so not right at the shore. The water is deep there on a high tide. There are tons of fish swimming there too.

as Iliveinazoo mentioned, parasites (or bacteria, or viruses may be present)
.............and your fish may have no natural resistance to them

If I have to sterilise etc it's gonna be a pita. Not thought this through enough. Cheers guys
