carbon necessary for bw?

I have a bw set up with an sg of 1.006 and slowly increasing to marine . Do i need activated carbon? I have 2 ac 50s and both have have sponge,bio and polypads.

Carbon isn't really necessary for any aquarium. It's more of an optional thing to assist with the removal of odors and chemicals/medications.

It's mostly used for mixed reef tanks, to help with chemical warfare issues.
