2 Dead One Left :(

I am so sad to announce that 2 of my three F8 Puffers have passed away  . One about a week ago and one tonight. I really want to save the only one I have left  .

pH: 7.5
Ammonia: 0.5ppm
Nitrites: 0.0ppm
Nitrates: 20ppm
Salinity: 1.004
55Gal set up since march/april
I just did a 30% WC about two weeks before the first puffers death, there was quite a bit of algae buildup that I removed. The only chemicals I add are Prime to dechlorinate the water and SafeStart to cycle the aquarium.

Thanks for any help,
Ian

The presence of ammonia shows that the aquarium is not cycled. Ammonia and nitrite should be 0. Do daily water changes until it is fully cycled.

Do you add safestart after each waterchange?

I rechecked all my levels and ammonia seems to have turned bright yellow (0ppm). I do not add SafeStart everytime i change water.

You shouldn't need to, either. ;)

So sorry for your loss. How were they swimming/eating?

My favorite puffer who passed was on the heavier side and looked a little like a blimp but he ate regularily. The other puff was a little bit skinny from the start and I was concerned about him all the time. They both slowed down and stayed towards the bottom a few days before passing :(
