hello,

i recently got a 450L/118gal 150cmx50cmx60cm tank that i would really like to use for a puffer(s)

when i walk in the LFS i always go and have a look at their puffers, they are just great.

however, back to the point.

now that i have a new big tank i would really like to set it up for a puffer(s)

what i would like the most is to keep a group of puffers along with some other fish.

when i did some research about group puffers, i found out the only puffer that can be held as a group are SAP´s (Colomesus asellus)
they even say i can keep them with other fish too.

the only downside about them (and the thing that scares me off a bit) is the dental care of these creatures.

so here are my questions:

-does anyone of you have sap´s? en with what other fish do you keep them?

i would really like to keep them with some apistogramma´s or cory´s and 1 or 2 Loricariidae (20-25cm) en several smaller ones.
also i would like a group of hemigrammus bleheri in the tank.

will this work? and how many SAP's should i keep in the tank?

-are they easy to catch? (for example when i need to trim their teeth)

-i can also keep 1 solo puffer fish, so are there other solo puffers for freshwater that go with other tankmates? (like apistogramma and so on)

i would really like to hear your opinions, answers, suggestions.

jeah i have read those articles + some several others on the web

but some stories of people that have them themself are also appreciated.

There's a member on here called Bertie who used to post quite frequently who had SAPs, you could try PM'ing him to see if he could offer his experience.

Hi, I'm back! Saps should not be kept with other fish. There is no aggression issues but they will take the soft food offered for other fish and they need crunch. They have to have hard food daily no ifs ands or buts. Very rewarding fish for a large species only tank. The constant pacing is frustrating to say the least, however that will stop if complex decor is applied to the tank.
