I recently, 3 weeks, bought my dream fish a New Guinea puffer, that is still in quarantine. When he came he was doing very well. In the last week he has really gone down hill. He is listless, not eating and getting very skinny. His coloring is pale and mottled. There is stringy mucousy substance on him.

I have tried 1 freshwater dip today and started cupramine yesterday.

Tank parameters are:
salinity=1.025
Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate=0 (just changed water today)

Tank is a 40g breeder, with a HOB and a sponge filter. It has been up and going for about 2-3 months with media and sponge that I always keep in my DT sump.

Do NOT stress this poor thing out by throwing toxic meds at him & putting him into FW!!! Do you actually see parasites on him? Stringy mucous may just be a reaction to stress & he's sloughing off his slime coat.

Thank you for the reply I will do a water change, now. I was doing what I was told on another forum.

I have bad eyes. My wife said there were white "things" hanging off of him.

What can I do to help him. Photos to come after the water change.

Has he eaten at all? I'd add Jungle Parasite Clear to the water, in case he has IPs.

No he is not eating at all. I will get jungle parasite clear today after work.

I am writing this post with tears in my eyes!! He has passed away. I am extremely sad. I know feel like I killed him trying to help him. I am so sorry Frank.

My guess is he came to you with untreated IPs. so sorry for your loss.. I'd go speak with the LFS.
