okie fish mates for 55g bw for 1 gsp

I know there is something on this somewhere, a link that I can't seem to find, so if any of you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
question being
55g tank bw, looking for some fish to keep my gsp that my fish won't nip or try to eat. What kinda mates and how many might I be able to invest in and what kind.
I was thinking maybe more gsp? every time I go to the pet store none of the gsp I see there seem to be healthy, they always look boney like anorexic *sp* and bigger and old!My kahmayo is still a baby.
I don't want her to grow up being an only child and then not tolerate any playmates.

lol kk nm! I found it! But I'm reading more or less its saying I don't need to get more fish?
That unless its a same species fish might be tough to keep them alive. And I'm thinking 55g for two gsp might be a stretch yea?

One GSP would be great in a 55. If you go full SW you may have more options.

I have one GSP in a 50g, he's still very young himself (although WOW growing fast in there) and once you get over people coming by and saying "where are the fish" when looking into your tank I think having a single GSP in a 50-55g is perfect. Plus like you said, so many at the LFS look awful, do you really want to risk the health of your happy little puffer?

If you have very good filtration, high turnover and are meticulous about care of the tank and fish, two GSPs can be maintained in a 55. I have to in a 55 now but will be upgrading to a 75 in a couple of weeks.

My 55s hold only very low 40s in gallons of water, but do have a substantial substrate (FW planted). I would not keep 2 GSP in a 55, even though I know our fearless leader did more than that. The 55s are one of the worst-named tanks for nominal volume versus reality. They do offer good swimming length though.

How bout a 55 + sump + the qualifications given by ybe?

Obviously it is possible, as it has been done successfully. But IMHO it is making your life harder than it should be. I had much rather either house the fish properly and have a safety margin than always to be dancing on the edge of the cliff. But I am both conservative and lazy.
