15 Year Old GSP

Hello All,
I am new to this site, however not new to Green Spotted Puffers. I have been successful with my puffers. Over 15 years ago, I started my first tank with puffers. My green spotted puffer, his name is "Puffer" is over 15 years old. He has a health varied diet, the tank is well established and I am not having any concerns there.
I am seeking advice as I would like to change his tank to look more "natural"- currently the tank has a "Colosseum" theme. I have seen awesome photos out there with aquascaping. I have no idea where to start. I would love to introduce live plants and larger rocks for more caves for Puffer to chill out in.
I do not have a fancy set up. I vary his tank (40 gallon) from full marine to the high end of brackish. I have a Fluval brand hang on back of tank filter. Puffer does not have tank mates, he is aggressive and eats the fins off his friends.
I would appreciate any and all advice, ideas, comments.
